VISITOR COMMENTS

This page has comments from visitors to Burnie and its surrounds. Each year many cruise ships come to Burnie and we try to satisfy the passengers' many varied wishes when they step ashore. Other visitors, of course, come from the mainland of Australia and elsewhere under "their own steam" and we try to do our best for them too.

We visited Tasmania on our Grand Voyage on P&O "Aurora" (January - April 2010). We engaged Robyn from “Play A-Round in Tassie Tours”. We very much enjoyed seeing the northern part of Tasmania, and cannot tell you how much it was enhanced by the enthusiasm of Robyn for her country.

She showed us many sights and even took us to her home to see if we could see any wildlife there!

Our visit to Tasmania has many fond memories and found it a beautiful country of contrasts - beach and countryside.

We visited Burnie on Friday, 18th March, sailing in on the MSS “Albatros”. We took the shuttle bus from the ship to the Visitors’ Centre, where we found the staff most courteous and helpful. The Centre itself has many displays which depict some of the early history of the area, and I found these most interesting. All the displays and machinery have been professionally constructed, and are a credit to the organisers.

The staff are all most courteous and helpful and very willing to assist. We were therefore able to arrange a tour by private car along the northern coastal area of Tasmania as far as Stanley and return, which we enjoyed very much.

We were sorry to learn since we returned home that the Paper Mill in Burnie has closed.

I am writing this email after my recent visit to Burnie aboard the Pacific Sun in early March 2010. This was my first visit to Tasmania and as a result of the wonderful time my friends and I had during our visit to Burnie I believe I will plan another visit to Tasmania with my family!

The friendliness and organisation of the volunteers who transported us to the Visitor Information Center was impressive and made it very easy for us to organise our fantastic tour with Robyn from “Play A-Round in Tassie Tours”. We believe our time with Robyn was well worth the money, we visited many of the beautiful areas surrounding Burnie … We also were particularly impressed with the people playing bagpipes as we reboarded the ship; all in all it was a wonderful visit.

Thank you to everyone for your friendliness and hospitality!

Joe Prendergast, Northern Territory Wonderful town, so much to see and so little time. Why didn't I plan better? Next time, I will not cut my stay in Burnie short! Green grass - where I'm from that's a novelty.
